Only my second attempt at animation. I think I may have gotten a little over my head on this one (pun intended). I may add to this later. I’m thinking there’s gotta be at least a billion different ways to infinitely mutilate my face and I aim to accomplish at least a handful of them.
nice work, fella!

Hey, it’s spring, we guess! Pretty cold for April, but we will be feeling the heat soon enough.
We have been busy retrofitting our old cafe space to a more functional & ordered space lately. Letterpress equipment has been moved back in where our pour over bar once was. Now leaving content in its absence, we have space to generate some long overdue artwork.
First in line was a print for our Spring Espresso. We call the espresso, Recovery, because it was quite a winter, and we knew we would need means of shaking ourselves out of the bitterness of the past few months.
#merlethedog made it onto the print because his situation in the reference photo was as dire as ours. We all wanted to leave it all & hit the road to lay near the ocean somewhere. As much as Merle shouldn’t have access to what ailed him, we shouldn’t have the green light, necessarily, to ditch our duties out of desperation. However, we encourage frequent bouts of Sisyphusic abandonment. Still, with Merle & we this past season, no access to our escapist desires should have been made available.
That said, the espresso was blended to taste like spring. Refreshing, bright & floral, with notes of citrus seemed to be in order. Give it a go, and tell us what you think.
Here’s to the impending sweats of summer.

So, at last, the favorite of the instagram crop was chosen by a panel of experts. We would like to congratulate Jon Terrey, for contributing the creepiest, yet most fitting image for our next bag.
There were 144 photos tagged with #oddlycutmarch. Thanks for submitting images of your lives for us to peruse. Sunglasses guy, pipe guy, guy with chicken, soup man with bird, ladies on bench, plenty of canines - all were great. Thanks for getting creative.
We will post another contest soon, and look forward to what you all come up with again.

So here’s an idea:
Instagram folks, I was thinking it would be fun to have a little contest where we engage you, the image-recorder, to come up with a fun image for an Oddly Correct coffee bag print.
The images above are a few examples of pictures that work well on a coffee bag. We want to challenge Gregory to try new things and pull of more complicated (or simple!) carvings for our retail bags.
What if we tasked you to take a photo that you think would work well on a bag, and thereby engage a home-coffee drinker as they perform their coffee brewing rituals?
Let’s say we use the hashtag #oddlycutmarch on your post. We will consider entries until the end of March. Our staff will get together and choose what we think the top image for a fresh cut will be. The winner will get a print & a bag of coffee, and their image will be included in our rotation of retail bags in our coffee markets.
Eh? Let’s keep it clean and creative. We are excited to see what you come up with!

It’s been a good week for printing and creation at the Oddly Correct shops on Main St. 3934, where we roast and print, has been under decently intense neglect since we moved operations to the corner in late December, 2012. It’s not unlike when you move out of your apartment & your room mate ends up staying a couple extra days on a mattress in the corner - familiar, but desolate.
We are making slow strides at making that shop feel good again. Amidst the chaos, (which, let’s be honest, is not all that different from what it was when we were pouring coffee in there!) type is being sorted, heavy items are being set in place, and work has begun. Ticking off a long list of need to(s), a fresh new bag cut has arrived, as well as retail gift cards for $5 & $20 values. Look for some greeting cards to hot the shelves soon for which to place and mail said gift cards.
Who’s the guy? He’s a dear customer, like all of you are, he’s just a feisty one, and had real sad eyes that day. He happened to be sitting at the right place at the right time for when grk was looking for inspiration for the next bag print.
We are dreaming up a juried image contest from viewers like you that would like to compete for a chance to be on your very own coffee bag! More to come on that soon.
hugs,

We are starting to catch our breath a bit, since the BCRBC & opening 3940 Main St. Kidney stones passing & various ailments have plagued us as a team since, but we feel we are on the mend.
We have scored a mobile pour over cart from sometime in the 1950’s. Look for us to fill your cups in the coming season. Randy is going to apply some of his fine fabrication/re-fabrication skills on this little number.
The painting of epic whimsy in this post will likely be found up high one of the shop walls soon. It shall serve as a reminder to us to destroy the beast of mediocrity from the inside out.
Cheers ,
us

A little love from the East Coast from Eater.com
It’s an honor to be recognized by folks for having a new & good-feeling space to drink coffee in. We, as a team, are eager to dig our heels in & discern what it looks like to keep improving on our raw materials, processes & finished product in your hands. We’re excited to continue to build on the foundation we have all found ourselves standing on, there, on the corner of Westport & Main.
Here’s to putting Kansas City even further on the map for good coffee, good food & fine people. Thanks for the love, & thanks for doing your part.

What a weekend, what a meet up it was for the Midwest it was. There was a huge coffee professional & professional coffee customer turn out at the Guild, in KCMO. Great work & thanks to the folks from the SCAA & BGA for arranging the weekend & selecting such a great venue & city to host the BCRBC 2013. We are excited to see everyone again in Boston, this April. Thanks to Kaldis Coffee & PT’s Coffee for Sponsoring the event & helping the midwest coffee community tighten.
Big thanks to Sprudge for covering the event. It was good to meet half of you. Thanks for what you do for the industry, and thanks for the ribs.
We did not take enough photos this weekend. Links will be posted of folks whom took many photos.
Huge thanks to Brock Rovenstine & Barista Parlor, for lending us the talent to help cover Tyler’s shifts at the bar at the shop & at the event on Sunday.
Congratulations to everyone who competed this weekend. Great job putting it all out there! Congratulations to Mike Schroeder & Tyler Rovenstine, for some great coffee performance. Mike placed 3rd in the Brewer’s Cup, & Tyler placed 4th in the Barista Competition. Great job to Pete Licata, Jacque DesMarais (Kaldi’s), Nora Brady,(Kaldi’s) David Fasman(Kaldi’s), & Reagan Petrehn(Parisi) as well for kicking ass.
Was great to make some new friends too, thanks for the love, Halfwit, Dogwood, Kaldi’s, Pt’s, Palace Coffee, Dark Matter & more.
There are too many thanks to give for one post. Thanks to you, our readers & customers for taking the time to give what we do a whirl.
Cheers to you.

Welcome to KCMO, BCRBC
This weekend is a big weekend for coffee professionals in the middle of the continent. This weekend, 16 states will be represented by coffee freaks doing their thing, & watching the thing be done by other peers. The Big Central Regional Barista Championship is happening Friday, Saturday & Sunday, this weekend. It will happen at the The Guild, located at 1621 Locust, KCMO.
Baristas from your favorite coffee shops around KC will be competing. We recommend highly stopping in to check it out. If you want to know why the person pouring your coffee every daily is so bent on serving it in a way you won’t forget, this event will provide some insight into their zeal.
From the Oddly Correct team, Mike Schroeder & Tyler Rovenstine will be competing. Come cheer & jeer them as you are able.
Check out who’s competing!
Good luck to everyone competing. Excited for coffee to reign supreme.

A word of thanks to & for the team:
Dear Oddly Correct,
I wish to express a word of appreciation & thanks to you, the team that makes the experience of coffee possible, through the brand lens of Oddly Correct. Thanks to you all, without whom, today would not be today.
To Sarah Kolsto, thanks for believing in me enough to drop the sanity (supposed) of a steady 8-5 work paycheck and walk into the unknown, eating bean dishes & transforming living spaces into fulfillment centers. Oh, and for keeping the books in order & taking care of our two wild children through the fog & flame of the last four years. You are an amazing woman.
To Michael Schroeder (Carlye & Eilley), thanks for being open to relocating from sunny NC, to be part of developing a dream & taking a chance to have a good time all the time while working with coffee. I am not the easiest person to work with, so thanks for your quiet grace & lack of response in my lower moments. Also, huge thanks and praise for your ascension into full-time coffee roaster for Oddly Correct. The coffee is tasting great, and I think your engineer mind is an asset to the coffee palettes of KCMO.
To Tyler Rovenstine (Jaime & Merle), thanks to you, for continuing to show up a while back, for taking a road trip to The Coffee Ethic with a stranger, and coming back with a decent idea of what you would be getting into as you would soon make us an offer we couldn’t refuse. Your attention to detail and odd coffee passions that wouldn’t have otherwise crossed our minds, are a welcome addition to the growing diversity & consequent unity we are experiencing as a company. Thanks to you too, for your patience & personal sacrifice in order to help something beautiful grow.
To Randy Taylor (Briana, Leila, Levi, Lincoln, phew!), what can be said about Randy? A lot can be said about Randy. I will mention here, that either space on Main Street which we have occupied, would not have been physically possible without the time & talent of Randy. The dude has boundless energy, skill & creativity- which he pours out on whomever is within reach and in need. We decided to bring him on staff for the 3940 build out, because he would have been doing the work anyhow! He also happens to have an operations mind, so he too is a welcome addition to our team.
So, when press occurs concerning Oddly Correct, the bald headed bearded face comes up on the page most often. Know that the real success is the team behind him & the customers in front of us.
Thanks Kansas City & beyond, for believing in us, digging what we do & why we do it & believing in our city enough to stay and see it to a better today & tomorrow.
